Hi all,

I received form 1099-G from NJ state recently. For tax year 2007 they had mistakenly withheld my state refund but they sent me a check later.

Now this form shows the same amount that I was refunded by them. Do I have to use this form in some way when I file for tax year 2008 ?

If you itemized your deductions in 2007 and claimed state tax paid as deduction, then you will report this amount (on 1099-G) as income. If you did not itemize, you do not use it. Keep it for your records. Read: Your U.S. Tax Return: Itemized Deductions (http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/05/itemized-deductions.html)
