Hey my dorm had a problem when the hot water was shut off, and they said the problem was a gas valve for the boiler. What does that mean? Please someone answer soon!

Hi Slalombabe..
Like John said, it means that the gas valve was the problem and it needed to be replaced.
There should be no need for concern on your part as there are a number of safety devices in place to keep any gas from leaking past the gas valve even if the valve becomes defective.
Let us know if need more here...
