Hi
I am indian student working oncampus... I received my salary twice and they deducted tax component like OASDI from my salary... I don't understand whether I am exempted to pay this tax or not... and if they have deducted this tax by error than what is the procedure to get refund... hpoing to get reply

You ARE probably exempt from these taxes if you are on either a F-1 or J-1 visa.

Download IRS Pub 519 from Internal Revenue Service (http://www.irs.gov) and print off pages 47-48, then take those pages to your university payroll to convince them that you are exempt from Social Security and Medicare taxes due to your international student status.

Note that you ARE liable for federal and state INCOME taxes. If the OASDI/EE tax withholding is for these taxes, then the withholding is correct.
