hello, I have 1 paper bill in very good condition dated 2/19/1864. Left side says "2 year after ratification of a treaty of peace" right side says "between the confederate states and the u.s. of america" it's number is hand written 20744. It is $10 printed in Richmond. Have pictures of it and hopefully I did it correctly and they are attached. Just wanted to know if anyone might have a guess as to its value. Thank you.

I think confederate money stopped being negotiable and not worth the paper it was printed on after losing to the Union. Only value I can see on it is keepsake value or to collectors having a series of denominations.

Hi, mathompson!

It looks like it's legitimate to me. The ones that are counterfeit usually are very crisp and much yellower in appearance so as to look like they are old. There have been many remakes of confederate paper currency over the decades since the Civil War.

Flying Blue Eagle is an Expert on this site who has the current documentation about the possible monetary value of such collectible currency. As such, I'm sure the he'll be along sometime in the near future to address your post.

By the way, you did a great job of posting the images!

Thanks!

That they are no longer negotiable currency is true, tickle. However, their possible monetary value to collectors can range from in the hundreds of dollars to the tens of thousands of dollars. As such, a lot of them, even individual notes priced separately from others, can be potentially much more than "keepsakes" and worth quite a bit of money.

Basically, the value of them to collectors is something that is negotiable among collectors of them. They are a viable collectible, as far as collectors of historic American paper currency are concerned.

Thanks!
