It is absolutely possible to miss a period (or more) and not be pregnant AND also ovulate...
Meaning you are in that really fuzzy area.
Concerning sex, you should act like you are not pregnant and ovulating, even if your cycle is hard to track. Meaning use protection if you want to minimize chance of pregnancy. Then again, my son was conceived while using contraceptives and faithful fertility tracking (we were trying not to conceive)... so you know protection isn't 100%.
But act as if you are still ovulating...
On the flip side, if you are pregnant and just not throwing enough hormone yet, you should also act as if you might be... meaning take a good multivitamin with folic acid.
Skipped periods cannot be pinned down to "this one thing"... women with "predictable" cycles can suddenly skip... you age, you change, your life changes...
Diet, holiday stress, anxiety, fitness level, winter "depression", and on and on and on... can play into this.
So... this is the state where a negative doesn't mean much, unfortunately.
A positive HPT, when done within the SOP of the test, usually is right. Test first thing in the morning, when urine (and hormones) is most concentrated. Schedule a blood test with your med provider.
A negative, however, is really just a lack of evidence. Maybe you are pregnant. Maybe you are not. You are most definitely in limbo, not knowing.
Any big changes in your life lately? Stress? Emotional distress? Change in workout? Do you workout? Fitness level OK? Any illness? Sick this winter?
