I received a civil summons for a credit card debt that was closed in 2006. When the attorneys originally called I offered to pay $10 a month because I lost an income and that was all I could afford at the time. I was told no. Then I told them I would go to a debt consolidation agency and they also said no to me. My problem is how to answer this civil summons. I know that I owe the debt but my income is low. Can anyone help me to answer this civil summons.

You answer that you plan on apearing and defending yourself.

You write the debtor and ask for proof of debt.

And you show up in court, if you don't show up they win automatically.

Also they don't have to accept a smaller amount, depending on the amount 10 dollars a month may not even be the interest on the debt.

And did you go to a consolidation company? They may have had an agreement with some and just told you no,

If you live in a state that allows garnishments, if you think your income is low now, wait till they get 25 percent of it.
