I live in NY and want to get married on a cruise ship in March. What do I need to do and is it legal and recognized? I will be leaving from Ft. Lauterdale Florida.

You can call ahead and ask if they can do it. For the most part so long as the captain is registered then they are allowed to marry you but Im not sure who holds jurisdiction because most cruise ships are registered to countries other then U.S. So if its by province and your in U.S. waters then you should be OK. Call ahead and ask how they normally handle it and any fees involved.

We looked this up a while back. You will actually get married in port, either in the originating port (florida?) or one of the islands that you stop in. The laws regarding the ceremony depend on when you choose to marry.

Call the ship line. They will give you all the details and let you know your options.

FYI - its MUCH cheaper and easier to get married in the states than the Bahamas (where a lot of cruises go... )
