Does anyone know if there is a way to use text messages as a type of document or form of proof?

It would depend.

What would these text messages prove?

If you are in the middle of divorce proceeding, do you not have a divorce attorney? If you do not, I suggest you get one.

Then it will be a simple matter of asking your attorney.

But if you can prove that the text messages can from your wife/husband, then you may use them if they help your case.

Any communication can be presented as evidence, the issues involved will be proving that they came from the other person, not merely his phone. Voice messages are a little easier but text message may be allowed but if the other side objects, proving they are from the other person will be harder.

And as mentioned, if you don't have an attorney get one, you will never get anywhere with out one. Get a mean, dirty fighting one, find a nice one for your will and trust or probate work, but you want someone that will find any way to win.
