I'm am going to be charged with theft under 5000 from my employer. This is my first offense and have realized and accepted my crime and am ready to speak with an officer at anytime... I made false returns and put money in my account using my debitcard... total not exceeding $5000. I know that restitution has to be paid of course, I am more than willing to pay it all back but what other consequences might I be facing and how do I prepare for it?

Hello girl:
Good for you... But, don't throw yourself under the bus... Even guilty people attempt to mitigate the damage. You should too. So, instead of talking with an officer, I'd talk to an attorney.

I actually spoke with a lawyer yesterday... He says that for a first time offense that worst case senario is pay restitution, fine, 1 year probation and community service... although he said that probational discharge might be an option. What bugs me now is that this case has been taken to the police over a month ago... the sergeant incharge went on sick leave and I have not been contacted to make a statement or anything... could this affect the outcome in court?

I would guess from the way you phrased this that you are in Canada. Others in Canada who stole from an employer got heavy fines. I'll be curious to know how this works out.
