Is it OK for a dog to eat Oreo cookies? I was watching TV last night, and I set 4 oreo cookies on the table next to me. I got up to get a glass of milk, and when I returned, all 4 Oreos were gone. My dog ate them while I was pouring a glass of milk. This is not the first time he's grabbed Oreos for himself.

Chocolate is not safe for dogs to eat. Your dog doesn't know it's bad for him and he will eat enough to kill him given a chance because it tastes good. It's your responsibility to keep it out of his reach.

Oreos have very little chocolate in them. Your dog should be fine. But, loads of human foods are bad for dogs. Hell, loads of human foods are bad for humans! Please take care in future, next time it might be something seriously toxic to him.

We had a black lab that actually knocked over my brother's dresser and got all of his halloween candy out of his drawer. She was fine, but that doesn't mean it's OK to let your dog eat chocolate. Next time take the oreos with you when you go to pour your milk. You just have to be more careful about leaving things unattended and within reach

Two things a responsible dog owner needs to be aware of, chocolate and grapes. Both can kill a dog. My dogs have eaten both in the past and been fine. But it only takes one time or one too many and they could be dead.

We have a bassett that will eat anything that isn't nailed down and then sometimes that doesn't even stop her... I suggest that you "babyproof" your house as far as food goes...

One more thing, what about Crème Savers hard candies? My sister has been feeding them to the dog as a treat. The dog bites them and crunches them up when eating them. Are these bad for him too? What about his teeth? Should I ask my sister to stop giving them to the dog?

Yes, you should ask your sister to stop giving them to the dog. Dogs really should not have people food at all, especially people food that we people, should not be eating a lot of.

The best treat we could give our Lab was ICE. He loved it. Went so far one time to put a hugh pile in front of him to see how much he would eat. About half of it in one sitting. He was happy and best of all it is free

My vet told us if we want to feed our dogs people food as a special treat give them baby carrots.

My dogs are nuts for peanut butter. Sure makes pill time a lot easier. They don't even notice there is a pill on a finger full of peanut butter :D
