My husband and I are very concerned about our 3 year old son. He is only able to say a couple of words, and the only clear ones are Mom and Baby. I am really the only person that (somewhat) understands him. The majority of his "talk" is babble and unintelligible jargon. He also scream A LOT, sometimes over nothing but especially when his siblings get too close to him and ends up in an uncontrollable rage the majority of the time. It is very trying on us and we aren't really sure as to what this is. He will be seeing the pediatrician in February, but I really need some advice as to what this may be! Any help is greatly appreciated!

How is his ears? If he has a lot of wax build up in one of them, it will affect how he hears things and consequently how he learns to talk. My 6 year old son had this problem but we didn't know it till he was 3 yrs. Old. Our previous family doctor overlooked this every time. It was not till we had moved to far away and had to change doctors that we found out. The new doctor found this immediately. He still has to get his ears cleared every 3 months. Some children simply produce more wax then others. Because of this over looked problem, he has to take special speech classes, but is in no way slow. We also take more time with him and help him pronounce things clearly. He would get irritated easily because he felt no one could understand him. Please keep me updated about this. I share a similar interest and share your concern. And if this is the case, I'am more than happy to offer any advice I can. I hope the best for your little guy!

If his siblings and their play are riling him, are they too noisy, do his ears hurt, or does he perhaps have a developmental issue, a form of autism ? It could explain the rages, not wanting to be near other people and slow speech development. These are all things to ask his doctor about at the upcoming appointment.
