It seems like a lot of my friends are being dumped or breaking up with someone at the moment. I'm wondering if it's the time of the year, that people tend to break up before Christmas, and if they didn't have the guts to do it then, they do it before Valentine's day, so sometime in January. My question is:
Do you think that there is a certain time of the year when there are more break-ups?

I think there was a study that January is the breakup month, and probably takes many things into consideration.
1. People don't like being alone for Christmas and New Years. Even if they know they are going to break up, they figure that it would be easier to be with someone than it would be to be alone. Also, this means that they don't have to tell their families about it. Therefore, they stick with it until after new years.
2. The new year brings about a period of reflection and resolution. People reflect on where they have been in the year, and where they want to be. Therefore, they decide that the relationship they are in isn't what they really want.
3. Cold/horrible weather/shorter days. People get seasonally depressed. This factors into it probably. Also, with the cold weather, couples are more likely to stay in... the winter doldroms.

I think August through October are the major months for breakups. It seems to coincide with going back to school.
Also I agree with Rome, Valentines day probably doesn't bode well for the stressed relationships either.

I would say about January through December... those seem to be pretty common times to break up...
