I bought a new gas dryer. I need to hook the dryer up to the gas line. The gas line has a T connector with a cap on it.

I think the gas line and the female connector is 1 inch, but I'm not sure. As near as I can tell, I'll need to get an adaptor that goes from 1 inch down to 1/2 inch, put in a 1/2 inch shut-off valve, attach a 3/8 inch flexible line to that, and then use a 3/8 inch adaptor to hook onto my dryer pipe inlet.

Is that right? Where can I buy the adaptors I need? I got the flexible line, the shut-off valve, and the adaptor between the flexible line and the dryer pipe inlet. But I can't find anything to get me from the 1 inch female in the main gas line to the 1/2 flare male in the shut-off valve. I tried Lowe's, and they did not have what I needed there.

Thanks.

You might have to get a bell reducer type coupling and nipples to make it work. Lowe's should have that. If not try Home depot.

To be perfectly honest with you you should call your gas supplier and have them come and properly hook this up. You said "gas" but did not differentiate propane or natural. If it is propane, call your propane provider and have them do this. Propane or natural gas is nothing to fool around with and needs to be properly pressure tested to make sure that there are no leaks present which could make for some very nasty surprises in the future. Some propane companies do it for free. Some charge a minimal fee.
