A creditor has obtained a Judgment for money against you. The creditor can now use any means that are legal in your State to collect the debt.

You had to have been served before the Judgment was obtained. If you were not, then you must go to the Court, review the file and attempt to open the Judgment for a new hearing - if you have a valid defense.

Without knowing exactly what the notice says we can only guess. It could be a notice that a judgement was obtained against you as the result of a suit.

It could be a notice that you are being sued.

Please read the notice carefully and be more detailed about what it says.

Yes,and as noted above the judgement will allow for wage garnishments, if your state allows and also allow them to freeze your bank accounts. As ScottGem said we need a little more information about the suit. Was it for a credit card debt?

I don't see that the type of debt matters. What am I missing?

No, not a problem - I was drinking coffee at the time myself so just about anything could have been going on. :)
