Hi,

I am in this country from December 2007, I can here with tourist visa, and from march I work for myself in a Research and development of new electrical technology, I did not earned any money but I spent a lot.

If I file my 1040 and filed schedule C the government will return my investment, was around 25,000 dollars (I have received every penny spent) or how mach money they will return ? I give charity to my church also for 1050 (2008)?

Worthwhile to pay my tax this year (2009 for 2008) that did not sell anything or expect another year when patent it and start to sell something?

The IRS will be suspect? I need to send all the copy of my bills and same pictures?

Thanks, people.

Hi, Ricardo!

Since your question is more about taxes, I moved it to this forum topic area so that it will be more likely to be noticed by our tax experts. I also needed to remove your email address to protect your privacy from those who look for exposed email addresses of people so that they can spam them. I would hate to see you get spammed.

Also, we like to keep all information right on the site here as far as asking and answering questions so that others with similar questions might benefit by the answers that have been given.

Thanks!

Ricardo:

The IRS will accept the tax return at face value, provided you have a SSN or ITIN.

However (and this is a legal question), starting a business is probably a violation of your tourist visa. You need to conside the ramifications of that violation.

If you have nothing but losses and you are a non-resident alien, your return will generate NO refund at all, as you are not eligible to receive the Earned Income Credit as a non-resident alien.

If you represent yourself as a resident alien and represent enough income to qualify for the Earned Income Credit, you are committing tax fraud, which can result in a prison sentence. NOT a good idea!
