We bought our house about 5 yrs ago, I noticed after I had flushed the toilet the water would splash up, it was not a major concern with me at the time. Lately, while other water appliances are draining there is a lot of gurgling coming from the bathtub or kitchen sink. We have a septic system, and municipal water. What could be the cause of this? It seems to be getting worse and very annoying. Our kitchen sink wouldn t drain once or twice since we moved here, I just plunged it and it worked fine. When you are in the shower the water seems to go down the drain normal but after awhile it seems to slow.
I don't know if these are related to one another or they are separate problems of there own, but would like a little insight before I make a decision on what to do. Our House is 30 yrs old, the septic was cleaned out when we bought the house, any help would be appreciated thank you.

1. drain line could have blockage

2. dain line from house to septic could be blocked

3. depending on usage and size of drain field and rain levels, septic could be full

4. leach fields ( laterial lines) over the years fill up and don't drain as well...

5. the septic could have gotten back where it is not separating the waste from drain field

If you have a septic clean out plug or a clean out plug for the house pipes, open them and see if there is water standing in the drain pipe, then see if the septic is full.

That will tell you a lot of where to start. Also for some systems, a clean out every 5 years is not unheard of, if perhaps it is a smaller tank with more people living in home now.

But if the septic and drain fields are all 30 years old, it may be just time to redo parts of system.

Only a very good inspection can tell you
