I need to know the steps to take to sign over parental rights of a child, and if I need to obtain a lawyer. Also can it be done while I am overseas? Also, I am not behind on child support, but after signing over rights, will I have to continue to pay? Does the mother have to agree, or can I do this with an attorney without her consent? Any help is much appreciated. What basis do judges relinquish parental rights?

Does the mother have a new partner ( husband) that is now willing to adopt, to allow you to sign over the rights?

It is a maybe, but very unlikely that any Texas judge will allow you to just sign over your rights,

You are not using them, so why give them up?

And yes you will have to keep paying support even if the judge lets you sign over your rights unless there is an adoption

If you don't want to visit, or call the child just don't, then you don't use the rights

You cannot just sign over parental rights. If your ex asks you to so her husband can adopt, then, and only then, will a judge allow it. IF that happens, child support will end.

If guys could just sign over parental rights cause they wanted to there would be a line a half a mile long at the court house and there would be no such thing as court ordered child support.
