I am trying to put the flange back into my pot light, but my the drywall hole is larger than the opening of the hole into which the can sits... basically, the clips from the housing do not clip under the drywall because the edge of the drywall is too far for it to reach...

Question:

Can I put silicone around the edge of the flange and silicone / adhere it to the ceiling? Will this work? Do I need a special type of silicone? Heat rated? The lights would not be on that often... as it is over the corner of one section of the bathroom..

Any ideas on how I can get the flange to snap into the clips in the housing?

See photo... any other ideas? Other than ripping into my ceiling? Or cutting and fitting in new pot lights?

See photo I drew...

If you have access from above, I would use a "New work" can, not a "remodel can"
Are those the 3" cans?

Yes. I have access from above. Yes, they are 3" cans...however the potlights are encased in what looks like a metal shoebox, with a 3" hole on the bottom (facing the drywall)... into which the potlight inserts (from the room below)...
What is a "new work" can?

Actually they make crossarms that attach to the 3" cans that attach to the 2X4 or framework. I think it would be a cleaner job than caulk.

the IC can in the attic is structurally fine. It is attached to the 2 x 4 's and the joists... the problem is that I cannot attach the cover plate to the light fixture because there is nothing bracing the fixture to the drywall... the drywall hole is too large and the clips won't clip underneath it...
