Hi There,
The Janitrol heat pump in our newly purchased home has two stages of heating. Problem is that the first stage is the gas furnace, which makes for an EXPENSIVE start of the winter. The heat pump won't come on except in 55 plus degree heat calling, and even then, sporadically. Please someone tell me how in the world to rewire this thing so the heat pump will do its job UNTIL the outdoor temp dips to just above freezing?
FYI, the tstat is a carrier brand with the W2/O on the same terminal. DO you recommend changing the tsat? If so, what to? Also, where do I check the "outside" temperature control thermostat for the heat pump?(someone else mentioned that to me but would not say where to find such a device.) Your assistance is much appreciated.

If the home is new it should be under warranty. If it is a gas high efficiency it might run cheaper than the heat pump.

You will have to post the Exact model numbers for the thermostat so I can look it up to see about the wiring.

The outdoor thermostat if so equipped is located in the heat pump itself unles the indoor thermostat operates that function with a outdoor sensor .

If you can figure it out all you should have to do is switch two wires in the thermostat. W2 is usually the second stage of heat BUT since it is on with O that is messed up since O is usually for the reversing valve on most outside units.
