My brother just informed me today that he was diagnosed with Hepatitis C. He is a recovering alcoholic and was just released from rehab about two months ago.

I am fully aware of what Hepatitis C (HCV) is and what it effects ; however I was doing some research on how you get HCV, and came across that research is still being done on if you can get it by sexual intercourse.

He told me that he had a one night stand and he had contracted the disease through sexual intercourse.

Is this possible? Please help me understand this more clearly.

My mother has Hep C but not my father. She got it from a blood transfusion. It is generally passed through blood. It can be sexually transmitted through blood contact but it is rare.
