A couple of the things that I do for a living is that I'm a house painter and a handyman. Around where I do my work, I don't need to be licensed to do either. However, I make sure that I do have the appropriate liability insurance.

Whether you need to be licensed or not, would depend on the local requirements where you'll be working. So, to find out about that, it would be best to contact city officials where you'll be working.
