I am in the planning stages of installing an automatic transfer switch for my house-Asco 225 amp". While doing this I was going to upgrade my 100 amp service to a 200 amp service. I was also thinking during this upgrade I would like to have some sort of disconnect between the meter and my automatic transfer switch, Just in case repairs have to be done without having to call the electric company. A Couple of supply houses recommended using a panel with a 200 amp breaker. I was wondering if a 200 amp safety switch would be better? Possibly a fusible safety switch?

Just to advise everybody I am not an electrical Person. I plan to have all work done by liscsensed electricians. Just trying to find some ohnest advice on doing the right thing.

A breaker and enclosure is what you'll typically see in this situation. That's what I'd use. ;)
