I got a 1990 vw jetta Gli that when is idling doesn't have a consistent flow of power. I was driving the other day and the car just wanted to die. It didn't but it felt as though it cam really close to just shutting off. It would jerk and start back up. Felt as though no power was getting through.

Any ideas what the problem may be?
Thanks

Is your check/service engine soon light on? Use a code scanner to determine if there's anything saved in the computer's history.

. Replace spark plugs with the exact brand and no. that came in the car.

. Replace fuel filter.

If the problem persists, replace the Ignition Control Module (ICM), coil, distributor cap, and rotor. It's important to replace ICMs and coils on older cars every 120,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first. ICMs are particularly problematic. Here's what your ICM looks like and costs:

All right I'll try the plugs and the fule filter.
You think it could be the air filter as well? Or Everything under the hood is so crammed and tight, hard to reach things, especially the air filter.
What about a fule injector clean?

Thanks

I would skip the fuel injector cleaning and air filter, at this point. Hopefully, changing the spark plugs will be a big improvement.
