Hi, Was told compressor is under warranty, but the labor will be $1100.00 with my discount, as they need to pull out the old compressor, drain out the fluid etc. Is this price reasonable. I have a 6 yr old Trane XR200, 4 ton unit

Sounds like a big bit much,to me ,but I don`t live in your area,, I would say call some other contractors for more estimates,, at least 2 more,, don`t tell them what the estimate is that you already have.

While you have them ask the cost of replacing the entire condenser unit,, might give you something to think about,, everything would be new and with a better warranty

$1,100.00 and the compressor is under warranty? That sounds outrageous even if they add a suction and liquid dryer to the system. Get another estimate.

Thanks, for your answers. I did call for a second opinion with a reputable company (A+ with the BBB) and found that my only problem was that it needed to be recharged. My compressor was fine.

One problem averted, another revealed: the system is leaking refrigerant. Be mindful of this, as it will resurface at some point.

Why did it need to be recharged,, that shouldn`t have happened,, there is still a problem,, refrigerant doesn`t wear out, there's a leak somewhere, that needs to be looked into

The new service guy said that the leakage might have been caused with the last maintenance check and to keep an eye on it. I plan on having the system rechecked in April and will no longer use the old company.
