When thermostat asks for heat, the furnace won't start unless I physically give the fan blade on the draft inducer a spin. What can be causing this?

It is possible the draft inducer motor is defective. Test it by applying the correct voltage to the draft inducer and see if it runs properly then. If not the motor is probably toast.
