When it is time for a DNC?

I had a miscarriage a month ago and I had my period for the third time this month and I am still cramping and my horomone levels are above 200? What should I do next and should I just get a DNC? What is a DNC and what happens during the precedure?

It can take awhile before your system gets back to normal after a miscarriage. If your doctor recommends a D&C it would be done to be sure that the miscarriage is complete.

In most cases you will be given a general so that you are not awake for the procedure... however, sometimes a spinal may be an option.
You will have some blood work done first and on the day of the procedure, they won't want you to eat anything from the night before or early that morning, depending on when you are having it done. Most of your time will be spent waiting for your turn to go in. In pre-op you will be given some meds through an IV to help you to relax... you may or may not remember bits and pieces of going into the operating room before they give you more medicine so that you will be out. The procedure itself takes roughly 20 minutes or so. The cervix is dialated and the lining of the uterus is scrapped. Afterwards you will be in recovery for a little while... plan to have someone drive you home and just take it easy the next couple of days. Over the next few days perhaps you can expect a bit of cramping and some discharge but it shouldn't be anything severe or long lasting.
The anxiety of having the procedure done is far worse than the actual procedure itself... which is really pretty simple and straightforward for most.
