The toilet bowl in the main bathroom will not hold water. The tank seems to be fine. When I flush it, the water fills in the tank and in the bowl, but after the tank fills the bowl drains until there is only about a cup of water left. I don't see a leak anywhere... Does the toilet need to be replaced? Thanks in advance for any help here.

Oh wow... I after looking through tons of questions, I finally found something similar to mine. The tall cylinder piece that the tiny hose pours into is chipped and the hose wasn't inserted properly. Question is... can I replace that cylinder piece and what is it called so I can ask for it. Thanks again,

That piece is called a "flush valve"(see images). If all the white overflow tube is chipped it won't need replacement. ( It's a real hassle tom replace one.) Make very sure the small tube coming from the ballcock's securely connected so it drains into the overflow tube. It replaces the water in the bowl. Good luck and thank you for rating my answer. Tom

It is amazing just how understanding the mechanics of something and a persons ability to comprehend what the problem exactly is and the repair needed can make the difference between a simple adjustment to having a (screw loose between the seat and the steering wheel) ha/ha which I find so may times in my field as an automotive technician or a more serious problem for which you should always get professional help ! Ive had a problem with my very expensive one piece kohler toilet (the bowl wouldn't fill) and here it is, a simple answer (screw loose between the seat and the roof ) txs! So much for what even kohler couldn't tell me ! The refill tube points inside the overflow cylinder ! Ingenious, I'm taking a tylenol saying a prayer for people that just want to help others and going to bed lol ! Thanks again , 3weeks of aggravation , 2 seconds to repair ! (still shaking my head)
