Hi, strub61!
What doesn't have to be inspected might depend on a number of things as well as the type of fireplace that it is.
What type of fireplace is this and why, specifically are you asking the question, please? Also, is this a fireplace that you just want to inspect, or is it being inspected as some sort of requirement by others?
Thanks!

Is this another test question? You already did 2 other test questions. The experts are here to help folks with their building problems, not necessarily here as a study guide for folks trying for an inspectors license.

What ballengerb1 is pointing out is very true!
I would just like to add, that if you've studied your material, then you should be able to answer the questions yourself concerning information that you need to know.
If you have some things that you really don't understand after studying, then it would be fair to ask a question indicating what it is that you don't understand rather than looking for direct answers to material that you're supposed to know.
If we give people the direct answers to questions concerning information that they need to know about things in order to pass some sort of examination so that they'll be best equipped for a certain type of job, how would that be helping them to learn the material so that they will be able to address certain issues when they're actually on the job?
Thanks!

I did'nt ask the question, but thanks for the honesty. I believe that the answer is stated on page 7 -8 of the PHI Sys and standards 2nd ed. I am studying for the test and if an answer is not known, then brush up on that area. e.g. fireplaces and standards.
