If this is your first time you should be okay, it was not over 500 and they can not charge you with a felony. AThyey may try to plea with you, I can't eve see you getting any jail time you might get probation or house arrest. You will have to pay restitution and you may get a little community service but at the most that's it. Pray about it I know times are hard but its not worth going to jail over. You have to live and learn just learn from your mistakes.
Good Luck- you'll be fine

It depends on the store manager, the state you are in, and the judge.
Kiantejones is right that usually, first offense, under 500, you should get off with a fine (the fine could be anywhere from 300 - 500, plus court fees, plus other fees that the judge may make you pay), possibly probation and community service hours.
You PROBABLY won't get any jail time.
Have you consulted with a lawyer or any public defense attorneys?

If you have no previous criminal record, you can ask for to apply for a diversion program but it depends what state or province you are in. This program allows first time offenders that commit less severe crimes to acknowledge their mistakes, repay them and move on. If you are eligible, you might be asked to watch a video of the evil of shoplifting, donate to a charity, write a paper, or perform community services. After you successful complete the require tasks and assuming you do not commit any crimes during the period, the charges against you will be withdrawn, and you will be left with a clean record. It is best to consult a lawyer or a legal aid at your best interest. Good Luck. Don't stress on it, you won't be getting any jail time.
