I would like to switch my toilet location with my shower location as I am doing a major master bath renovation. Is this possible and can I some how modify the existing drains to use them both. They are directly across from each other 72" apart.

Hi NGD...

Shower pipe requires a 2" pipe and toilets require a 3" pipe minimum... ok? This simply means that you won't be using the shower pipe to pick up the toilet.

Depending on the direction of your joists and the overall height of the joists you may or may not be able to move the toilet across the way as you want... at least not easily. You cannot drill/remove more than 1/3 of any joist height... so to get a toilet pipe through a joist at a minimum you would need a 2" x 12" joist (technically speaking, that is).

Otherwise, if you are lucky the joists will run in the direction you want the pipe to go... but probably won't know that until you rip floor open (unless accessible from underneath).

Anyway, sorry not an easy answer. I suggest you explore all and then take a picture and post it here when you are ready to do the plumbing so we can walk you through the pipe work.

We are also capabale of posting pictures of our designs.. ;)

Let us know if need more, anytime!
