I had a court appearance by phone today. I live in Ga and my court was in Buffalo ny. The court hearing was for failure to pay child support. I tried to explain to the judge that I am a real estate professional and I am not making any money right now due to the economy. The judge acted like she wasn't trying to hear what I was trying to explain. She asked me why I haven't paid chils support and I was honest in telling her that I can' afford it. She order me to appear in court in March and I told the Judge that I would be unable to do that. Being that I am not going Buffalo Ny for the court hearing they probably will issue a bench warrant. I currently owe about $25,000 in back child support. There is no way that I can cathch that up. I wanted to know will the bench warrant affect me here in Ga. Will they arrest me and extradite me over a family court issue and not a violent criminal issue. Please someone help me

Ok, judge could care less why you could not pay, you have never filed a motion to have the amount modified due to major change of income. After you do that, then they will ask for a lower amount after that. But you will still owe back amounts.

But unless you have asked it to be modified you will still owe the current amount each month on and on.

Next yes GA is very very serious, in most cases they can turn this over to GA child support enforcement and they will merely lock you up in GA prison for the other state.
