What exactly is the purpose of a gas fireplace thermostat? This is new construction. It is a vented, gas fireplace with an on and off switch. There is a fireplace thermostat next to the furnace thermostat and I'm not sure how to use it. Does it control the amount of heat generated by the fireplace? Is it just for controlling when the fireplace comes on automatically? I can turn the fire on with the switch. I can't imagine having the fireplace come on at a specific time. I have no instruction manual with it (I saved them all), I can't get my builder to call me back and there is no brand name on it, so I can't look it up with the manufacturer to find out how to use it. Thanks

The thermostat can regulate the heat just like your house thermostat, when the room reaches the temperature you have it set at it will shut the fireplace off and when the room gets below that temperature it will turn the fireplace on again. I have a fireplace with just a thermostat and it works great, I also have a fan on it which circulates the air better. It keeps my basement pretty toasty when people are using that area. Have a great day!
