Have been married for a few years now and received my green card a little while back. The thing is that my wife (citizen) moved to a separate state to be closer to her family and I remained in my current home state to work. When tax time comes around should I file jointly or separately? And if I file separately does that affect me when I am filing for citizenship? I know you have to be married to a US citizen for 3 yrs following receipt of your green card. Will that be affected if I file separately..
Thanks

If you have 2 years conditional green card, from immigration point of view, you should file jointly.
Besides, the fact that you don't live together may jeopardize your status when you file removal of condition or apply for naturalization.

I do not have any conditions on my green card, it is the one for 10yrs. But thank you for the advice on the filing of the taxes. When you are applying for naturalization can I assume that you have to submit joint tax returns?
Thanks
