Iam trying to take out a permit to do my own roof. They are asking me for ridge ventilation? Do I right down how many vents I have because they are not running consistent.. Also mean roof height?

Roof ridge ventilation is usually set back 1' or 1 1/2 ' foot from the end of peak and it's the whole peak. Do you have multiple roofs? It sounds like they are asking about your soffit vents on how many. A roof vent is just that a long roof vent for each roof. For the soffit its either full vented or half vented every other foot or no vent. That's basically how its sold. Can you explain "not rinning constant" ?

David, you are confusing what you have with what they are looking for. I think you likely have several box shaped or even round roof vents, usually all on one side ot the roof. The building department is asking if you are using a ridge vent system that removes the very top edge where the two sides come to gether. This opens a slot the length of the home anout 4" wide and a special ridge vent material is installed. Just ask the building inspector if you can just use what you have in place, tell him how many and how many sq/in for each. Ok now the roof height, measure from the top of the attic rafter to the peak, they may also ask for pitch which is stated by the slope vs the height, like a 4/12 pitch or so on.
