A friend of mine female christian is married to a muslim man who has desserted the family home and their two children , he has not been present nor has he provided for his wife and children for something like eight years, in fact on several occasions he has requested money from her and her mother. Can she divorce without his presence, or input, she does not know how to contact him.

I don't know where you are but if this is a Government-recognized marriage and not solely a religious marriage he has to be notified.

Laws vary by State but if he cannot be located he can be notified by newspaper ad in the proper format, containing the proper information, published in a newspaper with a certain circulation (meaning a certain number of people have to receive the newspaper and the Court system has to recognize it as a legal means of publishing notices).

What State (if you are in the US)?
