My father has ALS he is 60 years old with no family in the US all his family is in Switzerland of course I cannot speak the language. With my fathers insurances he has medicare primary and medicaid secondary due to his diagnosis of ALS. For him to be home with a home health nurse he has a deductible that must be met every six months of $9,000.00. I am 24 year old single girl working two jobs no life at all and still cannot make the monthly payments on top of my bills. Please help what is the alternative other than a nursing home.

My wife is the medical claims biller in our family so I consulted her on your situation. Her first response was 'Disability'. Has your father worked and paid taxes in the US? If so he should qualify for benefits. The other thought is - Doesn't Switzerland have Governmental health insurance for its' citizens? The only other alternative would be as you said, a nursing home. This is not as bad as it sounds if you choose carefully (from a list of medicare facilities). You could visit him often. He could be around others his age and receive the care he truly needs. Live your life its' your turn! You can still love and care for your father as well. God Bless!
