How can I repair a leaky shower drain when there is limited access to the bottom of the shower. The shower is in the basement sitting on a concrete floor.

Remove the drain cover and see if you can tell from examination exactly where it's loose. If you're lucky it will be right near the top where you can dry it off real good then try some silicone.

If that does not take care of it you've got quite a job on your hands. From there you'll want to get 3-4 estimates from plumbers and get them to be very specific about what they'd propose to do. From there you can decide if it's something you want to tackle on your own... or if you're not sure, post what they say they'd do here and we'll give you some input as to how difficult it might be.

I can predict that it WILL be a diy job if you're handy. A frustrating job yes, but not a mechanically difficult one.

I am in process of getting the contractor back to fix the leak but am having a difficult time getting him back. THis is a new install (or remodel) and this appeared after a few days after he left. Other than standing water under the shower it isn't hurting anything. I do appreciate your message and will keep what you said in mind. Thanks again.

Oh, I didn't know it was after an install. Yes, get that guy back out there to have him do it right. Don't do anything yourself yet - and be insistent.

If he gives you the runaround, I'd complain to both the BBB and your State Attorney General.
