We live in a house that is about 30 years old. When we go to take a shower, the water is not hot. It does not even stay lukewarm sometimes. The coil will get hot when you turn on the hot water for a few seconds, then goes cold as if cold water is running through it. What should we do? Using our shower is unbearable. It feels like just the cold water is on. There are separate valves for the cold and hot water. We turn the hot water valve all the way one and do not even turn on the cold water in the shower. PLEASE HELP ASAP!

Maybe time for a new hot water heater. When you are washing dishes do you run out of hot water? How old is the water heater? The average life is about ten years.

You haven't told us how your water's heated. Hot water heater or a boiler fired heating system.

The coil will get hot when you turn on the hot water for a few seconds, then goes cold as if cold water is running through it Tell me about this"coil"? Regards, Tom

This only happens to the water in the shower. I get hot water, actually boiling hot, in the kitchen sink and hot water in the bathroom sink. The only place that doesn't get hot water is the shower.

The coil that runs into the shower for the hot water does not stay hot. It gets hot than a few seconds later the coil cools and stays cold.

Where's it located? What brand is your mixing valve. Skald guard? How old? Details! I need details! Regards, Tom

I'm assuming that this coil's function is to deliver the hot water to the shower itself. It is located right behind the shower. I have no idea what brand our mixing valve is. All I know is that there are three coil lines behind our shower. One for cold water, one for hot because there are separate temperature knobs to turn on the water.

Hi Sarah,
The coils are in the wall? Have you seen them? If so can you send me a picture?
There should be a brand name on your mixing valve handle or knobs. Is it a one handled or two knob valve? And you still haven't told us how your water's heated. Hot water heater or a boiler fired heating system. Regards, Tom

The coil is in the water heater. I can't find any name on the mixing valves, but it is a two valve. We have a boiler fired heating system. Thanks.
