I have a 72 gmc trunk with a 350 small block.I just changed my timing chain because the old chain had slack and was hitting the cover.so now that I've put the new one there seems to be slack in the new one.so what can be done to fix this problem.

Thank you

I assume you also changed both gears as well?

Also are you sure you have the right chain ?

There should be some slack, but not so much that it hits the cover.

Replace the timing gears and chain as a set!

If you mix and match you are just wasting your money.

As for slack there should be very little. It should be almost impossible to install chain and gears without a lot of cursing.

After installation rotate eng twice the marks on the timing chain should line up again.

Good luck

It is normal to have some slack but not enough to slap around and hit things. There are tensioners and cam buttons made for this but not neede in normal use
