I have a friend who's boyfriend went to his work when it was closed, deactivated the alarm, used his keys, opened the safe and took the contents (under $5000). He confessed to her and she spoke to investigators. He is now basically waiting to be arrested. She has tried to tell him that it will look better for him if co-operates with the investigation, gives the money back, and do whatever he can to make the situation better, but he does not believe anything will help. Does anyone have some stories to share? Does anyone know what the penalty might be for him?

Hello janice:

I've just answered a question similar to yours, so I'm just going to cut and paste it here. You can make the relevant changes:

His g/f is trying, but she should leave the legal advice to HIS LAWYER. I don't know if it will LOOK better or not... I would NOT follow the suggestions of his girlfriend. I WOULD follow the suggestions of my very good lawyer. If I were him, I'd be on the phone TODAY trying to hire one.

Hello Grant:

There are a jillion factors that go into sentencing, including your record, your race, your age, your financial status, your charge, your victim, your witnesses, your political connections, your demeanor, your education, your parents, the quality of your lawyer, the size of your town, the ambitions of your prosecutor, the happiness of your judge, your sexual preferences, and I've only just started.

So, LOTS of these factors have NOTHING to do with the crime, as you can see, and some of them are in YOUR control RIGHT NOW. I'd take the ones I could control and run with them... The ONE I'm primarily referring to is the quality of your LAWYER.
