I just encountered a similar problem.

Did u say it dod or did not count down?

My problem was that it rolled and heated up but my clothes were still wet after the cycle, what it turned out to be was at the end of vent where the smoke is pushed outside, it was clogged with lint, the whole vent was cloged with lint. I live in Michigan and so this lint froze therefore dripping back into the dryer. Getting my clothes all wet and stinky. I cleaned this lint out now it works like a charm.

Not sure if this is what is wrong but check your vent and your opening to the outside and make sure their clean of debris. Also make sure your coils are free of debris (this could cause fire)

One thing that can cause this is the circuit breaker.. The motor will run on 120 volts. And the heat element needs 240 volts. If one side of the two pole breaker is tripped or not set properly, the dryer will run but not heat. On some settings, the timer will not advance if the dryer does not heat.
