Hi! I am finishing a bathroom in my basement. How high does the toilet flange, which is PVC, need to be above the level of the tile we are going to install soon? Not sure how high to cut the pipe... :o

The toilet flange mounts right to the floor, like in the picture.

You can either install the flange now and tile up to it... or tile the floor then install the flange.

As for cutting the pipe: what pipe are you talking about?

THe pipe is the PVC pipe coming up through the basement floor - I believe the sewer pipe. It is the one stubbed for the toilet.

Ok... so shove the flange onto the drain sticking up - and the distance between the part of the flange that will rest on the floor - and the floor itself - is what to remove from what's sticking up.

Using that measurement, you'll mount the flange then tile up to it's perimeter.

Remember; double-triple check the flange placement before glueing! :)
