Hi I was told from the Lexus dealership I need a charcoal canister and that the car probably would not pass inspection if I did not replace it. . HAs something to do with the emissions? Anyway was wondering if there was any thing I could do to keep the emissions within the required standards . Anything that I could do on a regular basis. To keep emissions low without having to replace the charcoal canister.

Problem likely came about from overfilling (topping off) the gas tank. This is a common problem, especially on Toyotas. Excess fuel damages the charcoal canister. Repairs will likely run around $400. Stop filling the tank, when the automatic cutoff on the nozzle turns the pump off.

The dealer must have dieagnosed the failure to determine that the repair requires a canister.

What was the fault?
Any codes?
Damage?
What did they find that leads to the whole canister?

The check engine light was on. And that was the code that came up led them to that conclusion I guess.
