Does anyone know how (or the ratio of how) to change a gallon of light yellow paint. (which I bought thinking it would be pretty.) I painted my kitchen and lo and behold I hate the color. I hardly used any paint out of the gallon. I would like to try and mix what's left of the gallon of paint and make a very pale green color. Paint is so darn expensive nowadays. So I'm trying to figure out if I can change the color so I don't waste the paint. Any ideas? Thanks!:)

Go back and say that you got the wrong color, and have them change it for you.

I can't take the paint back. I used it to paint my tiny kitchen. So some of it is gone out of the gallon. But it was a nice thought! Thanks!:D

It doesn't work that way. This is why it is best to get a few little test "cans" and paint a swatch of each color on the wall... then you can find the color you like best.

Go to where you got the paint from they should have the code of pigment that's already in your can. Pick out a color swatch and use that for your next pick. If its close possibly the original can be changed especially if the mixer person is skilled. Try your luck with it. I paint in my business and there are times this works it might not match perfectly to the new pick but hey even the new swatch in mix gets off on the get go.
Oh and let me guess your yellow has too much GREEN in it. Yellow Is the hardest paint to look yellow. The yellow is greatly effected by its surrounding colors the effects its YELLOW look. Trust me on that one been there too many times with customers. I had a job after the 3rd different color yellow and took a bright white and a feather duster very lightly dip that in white and touched the yellow wall and It made yellow look yellow and a nice foo type finish

I don't ever want to see yellow in a kitchen at all again in my life.. we just bought a house and they had the kitchen painted white with a yellow trim around the cupboards with yellow flowers stenciled in with years of dirt... and OMG it was ugly.. ugly.. I painted the kitchen a baby beet and milk bubbles.. did a grape wine theme.. and I love it..
Attached are before and after pics..

Bethelson, I would ask the guy at the Paint store, if he knowlegable, what colors can be made from Yellow? At the most basic, yellow and blue make green, yellow and red make orange, Many colors in between.
Mrs agony, Looks Great, I would consider changing the switches and recepticles to White Decora style, Add GFI, if not already protected. You will not believe the difference it will make.

I change paint colors all the time at home, just remember to write down what you do to change it. Start with small amounts of blue a couple tablespoons and keep adding unitl it becomes the color you want. Don't forget to write it down, in case you love the color and have to get more for touch ups. The worst that can happen is that you ruin the gallon of paint that you no longer want any way.
