I have been taking Paxil for about 5 years.

I've lately noticed that when I take 40 mg/daily---my prescribed amount, I have been having very vivid and distrressing dreams---Previously that would happen only when I missed a few days or cut down drastically.
As a 61-year-old male, I also suffer fom the well-known side effect of decreased libido and difficulty climaxing.
I would like to slowly get off this medicine. I have read in some forums that people decrease by perhaps 1 or 2 mgs. Every week or so---is that advisable?

Hi Arnie, unfortunately we can't advise you to stop taking Paxil, that can only be done by your doctor. By decreasing your dosage and eventually quitting, you may be doing harm to yourself. I strongly suggest you talk to your doctor about your concerns.

You have to be under the care of a psychiatrist when you decrease psychotropic medications. YOu have to be monitored by a professional.

Best wishes, :)

It is worth it in these cases, Arnie. We often don't see changes in ourselves that a trained professional can see.

Incidentally, I quit a drug, Lorazapam(tranquillizer), and it took, me a year or more under supervision.

Best wishes, :)

As Choux said you need to get a dr. to help you do what is best.
You might need a dosage change or you might need switched to a different med.
I took Paxil for about a month and it made me not be able to sleep and made me astro project and hallucinate. After awhile I couldn't tell when I was awake or asleep.

It got so bad I went to the ER and they gave me a weeks worth of xanax to withdraw from the Paxil.
