My husband and I have been trying to conceive, and I am 3 weeks late with my period. A week ago, I took an HPT (negative), then a few days later went to my doctor and had both a urine and blood test done. Both came back negative. However, I still haven't had my period (20 days late and counting). I was on Clomid in September and October, but stopped after two cycles. Had a normal period in November, but nothing so far in December. Up until now, my periods have been like clockwork (30-32 days). Aside from the missed period, no other pregnancy symptoms. Have had a thick discharge for the past two days but did an ovulation test last night that came back negative as well. My dr. told me to come back after the holidays and retest. Just wondering if it's still possible to be pregnant and get negative HPT and blood test results.

Probably not pregnant. More than likely you should be after you get this period. It does take your body a few weeks to get back to normal after taking any kind of oral birth control. Relax, give it time. You'll get pregnant soon enough.

Twinkie, I wasn't on birth control and haven't been since April 2006. Clomid is a fertility medication that stimulates the releasing of eggs - it helps you get pregnant.

Evelyn, it is possible that you may still be pregnant yet the tests were taken too early in the pregnancy to detect the HCG. However, I do have to mention that the stress of trying, especially with Clomid, can cause your periods to be late. Clomid tends to get the hopes up of many women and they tend to "psych" themselves into what is called pseudo pregnancy.

I have to ask though, why you stopped taking it.

Probably not, I'm sorry. It could be you're very stressed out from trying to get pregnant. Or the meds you were taking. Some medication last in the system a very long time in the system (I do not know your full medical history so my advice can be faulty there).

I recommend going to see your doctor. He/she has a more accurate test that can tell you if you are or are not and can further diagnose the situation.

I wondered the same thing as J_9 regarding stopping the Clomid. Has your doctor been monitoring your use of it? Have you been tested for ovulation? Some women will decide to not continue due to some side effects that can be experienced... was this the circumstances? It can take several cycles, and often a change in dosage, before some women find results.

I stopped taking Clomid after two cycles because my OB/Gyn "didn't want me to waste anymore time" and sent me to a fertility center. She wasn't very helpful, nor did she diagnose me properly - she never even performed a hysterosalpingogram but gave me clomid anyway. My new doctor is much more helpful and has set me on the right track. I still haven't had a period yet (it's been a full month now) and I am scheduled to take another blood test after the new year.

To be honest with you, I'm not very stressed about it since I already have an adopted 2 year old daughter who we love and adore. It just would've been nice to have a child naturally born to my husband and I, which is why we've been trying. But either way, we're happy and we know we're already blessed.

*UPDATE* I've now missed two periods (last menstrual cycle was November 3rd) and took two more HPTs, which both came up negative. Saw my doctor yesterday who prescribed me Provera to jump start my ovulation/period again. Very annoying.:(

It is annoying when our bodies don't do what we want them to do! Hope it doesn't take too much longer for you... :)

Don't give up hope. I was in that boat once too and found out I was actually four months pregnant two weeks after taking the Provera.

I may be late on answering this question and I don't know about the blood test. But I was 3 weeks late when I found out that I was 7 weeks pregnant. I took 6 hpt within those 3 weeks and last one is the only one that came back posotive. I went to the clinic the next day. Now I am 13 weeks and loving it.

I've taken six days of Provera, and still no period yet. I've been told most women start after three or four days or so of taking Provera. Guess I'll have to see my doctor if I get to my last (10th) pill with no period.

J-9, did you have negative HPTs and that's why you didn't know you were pregnant? How did you eventually know you were pregnant? And when you were on Provera, did you ever start your period? Sorry for all the questions - just need clarification for my peace of mind. Thanks!

I am in the same situation, totally understand where you are coming from, I am now 3 weeks late to my period, so I would roughly be 7-8 weeks now, booked in at the hospital Friday through my gp's refferal to make sure, and if I still get a negative test aparently it will be classed as a failed pregnancy and I will be booked in to have a termination, this seems strange, they said they would not even consider a scan if I am still getting negative test results.

Gp's can be annoying sometimes.. at least they should give you a scan to make sure if you pregnant or not mollie.. thats why I always argue with them just can't take it what I want gots to be done lolll

Evelyn... often a period will start three or four days after the last pill is taken. Sometimes it can take a bit longer than that. See what happens about this time next week.

There's a slight chance that you may be pregnant. Sometimes if you're under too much stress, that may cause you to miss your period. But I don't think your period should be this late if its too much stress. I do agree on the possibly testing too early. I was 7 weeks pregnant before I was able to get a positive reading. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you get some positive answers soon as to what is going on.
