I was 18 at the time and in no condition to be a parent. I lost my temper with a 18 month old child and out of anger inadvertently fractured her left femur. I was sentenced to 10 years of straight probation which means that the felony will always be with me. I am sorry for what I have done and I now have three wonderful children that I love with all my heart. I feel proud to say I am a good father to them. I just want to know if I can take a trip to the Caymen Islands with this on my record?

Hi, silkypoo102!

It's my understanding that, if in the U.S. with a felony conviction, that it would depend on whether you have served out your sentence, including parole or probation, been given papers that stipulate that you have met all of the requirements of your sentence, that you might then be granted a passport.

However, the nature and severity of the crime can come into play here with whether you're eligible for one. That decision as such would be entirely up to the discretion of the agency issuing the passport, so it would be best to be directing your inquiries to a passport agency.

Thanks!

Anyone can get a passport. All it is is identification. A person's criminal record is neither asked nor checked.

Whether you can get into another Country is the question -

You can as noted always get a passport, unless you were ordered by the court not to have one.
But getting a Visa to enter another country will be limited because of this.

If a Police Officer said the only way to get your arrest removed from the computer system is to go to the RCMP office and file the necessary papers, I would assume that's how you get it removed.

I don't see the problem with a passport - it's just a means of ID. I do see you could have a problem with a visa - but after 29 years I'm not sure it's still on computer.
