I seen a post that spoke of this issue I can set my thermostate on 69 the heat pump will run all day and night and keep the house right on 69 but the pump never shuts off. If the tempature drops to low in the home my aux heat will come on but the aux heat shuts off one degree less so at 68 it shuts off and then the heat pumps just runs. Are the heat strips supposed to stay on until the unit shuts off? Or is it just to cold outside for the uni to work properly.
So it seems to me that the heat pump can never finish off now if it warms up outside say over 25 then the heat pump will cycle with no problem. I have two units in the home both act the same. The thermostats are Lux and I have the swing set point as low as I can go only at 1 degree.
