My snapper rider will move in reverse, but when put in any forward gear, it will not move. I made sure the drive plate is the correct distance, no help. Perhaps the problem is in the drive gear box? This is the first problem I have experienced with the snapper in 10 years, I love this machine, being retired and on a fixed income, I would like to make the repair myself... I am quite handy with machinery, etc. Just need to know where the best place is to start.
Many Thanks, and Merry Christmas to all!!

Hi,
I am just guessing this is a rear engine rider by your description. Model #? Just below the seat inward of the battery would be a tag. Could be further back and facing upwards on some models(first one faces toward the front of the machine.) Tractor could have it beneath steering wheel on pedestal, in front of and below seat on body, beneath seat or on rear of body. Be glad to help with a little more info; worked on Snappers for well over twenty years.
Peace,
Clarke

Yes, it is a rear engine rider... I have a souped up 12 HP B&S engine. Bougfht the machine used but it was in very good shape, other than the engine had a broken ring which I repaired with a new piston, new rings, and a bore job. Someother guys have said it could be a broken chain in the drive box..? AS I said, I just would like a good place to start.
Thanks for your reply.

Hi,
I am afraid the chain would affect both directions. It really sounds as if it is it disc part of the system, somewhere. There is a chain case on one side and a differential on the other side.
Peace,
