Not all people who die in the house 'become' ghosts
Usually they become ghosts if they had a tragic death]
Or they do not realize they need to move on to the next dimension.
I wouldn't worry too much until you see things to prove your fears.
Majority of ghosts are harmless anyway.

Try playing background music or leave the TV on low when you aren't watching it. Leave night lights on. These things will help so that you are not jumping at every little sound and thing that goes bump in the night thinking it is her.

Yeah she is gone BUT when you have worry like that you are not having the peace you need so then every little noise you let your imagination run wild even if it isn't so. I suggested that more for her peace of mind.

Good ideas, but it does continue the wondering.

By any chance have you read Harry Potter? Dumbledore says some really good things about why people fear death in, if I remember right, the sixth book. Yeah, it's when he and Harry are in that cave looking for the horcrux.
I don't think I can put it as well as Albus, but what I would say is this: Death is something all humans share. From the richest to the poorest, kings and emperors and presidents, maids and butlers and beggars and prostitutes, priests and healers, soldiers, housewives and midwives and those who love, and those who steal, death is a part of all our lives. The adventure of our being leads on beyond the life we know, into something else. Mortality is our great weakness and our great majesty. It is human and natural to fear death--do not feel badly that you fear death. But we show our greatest nobility when we choose to live vibrantly despite that fear. We fear ghosts only because we fear death, and we fear death because we fear the unknown.
Well, enough philosophy. Even when the energy, or spirit (or however you want to language it) of a person lingers on earth, she will only stay in the place of her dying if there is a good reason for her to do so. Most of us, if we hang around at all, would probably rather stay near our loved ones, or go someplace or near some object deeply important to us, than just at a place where we happened to be at the time. There is usually nothing that holds us there.
Wondergirl obviously feels strongly that this woman has moved on beyond the Gateway of Being. Wondergirl, you write like you are speaking from experience. I'm guessing you did something to check it out in some way? Would you be willing to share with us what work you did? (P.S. I like the Obama signature line--lets hope all of us can hold on to that confidence and sense of hope in the next four [dare I say eight] years).

The OP even said, "she was ready to die and it was her time." Why would she hang about?? The next life is so much better!

Hi "I'm Scared", Especially when I was young like you I was always afraid of being alone someplace - especially at home or even alone in a public bathroom. I was afraid I'd see something. Well I never saw and ghosts or anything ever. I'm still sort of afraid but not to such a great degree as I was when I was younger. In all my life I've never seen any signs of anything supernatural and/or ghosts. I still have a fear sort of like yours that if someone in my family dies I'll see them. Well after my mom died I never saw her; I never saw anybody's ghost that I knew died. So don't you worry there is absolutely nothing for you to be afraid of except for real people. There is probably no such thing as ghosts. There's lots of propaganda since people like to make money off these things. Plus there are physical and mental conditions that cause people to see spirits and things that are just not there. There is a type of epilepsy where people see ghosts. I tend to not believe in any of these things anymore. Believe in what is reality. Believe in people and watch out for ones you don't know if you can trust. You will be fine. There is a place in the Bible that states that once people die and they go to the sleeping place (hell); they can not come back as spirits or ghosts. I believe this (I think).

Hi Tamara,
You have absolutely nothing to be afraid of. Your landlady is not in the apartment and chances are she will not return there. I'll try to explain.
Your landlady knew that she was ill and that she was dying. Cancer does not just happen over night. When people are aware that their time on earth is limited the actual act of dying is not an unexpected event. Although they may not want to go, they are by no means surprised when it happens. Because her end was expected there were likely relatives and friends who died before her on hand to take her into the light. Once she entered the light she began a new life. Her pain was gone, her body is healthy. She has a new home in a new world where everything is beautiful. People who have gone through what is known as Near Death Experiences have described the spirit world.
Let me quickly explain what a Near Death Experience is. Imagine that someone dies during an operation. The Doctors work on him and in a minute bring him back to life. In that one minute, he was dead. People who have come back describe going through a tunnel, entering a brilliant white light and being reunited with loved one who had already died. They describe the spirit world as beautiful, loving, peaceful. Many are angry at their doctors for bringing them back!
That is where your neighbor is. She is in a world where she will grow and evolve as a spirit.
She may even become a guardian angel to a grandchild.
Chances are that she will not stay around. I'll be honest, some people who pass over will stick around until after the funeral, and then go into the light. Why until after the funeral? Well, most of us are snoops! We want to see who showed up and what they are saying. What better opportunity to snoop than when you're invisible! However, after they have had their fun they usually go into the light to be with their passed loved ones.
If she decides not to go into the light she will remain earthbound as a ghost. Ghosts are famous for going someplace that holds or held significant importance or memories for them personally. Chances are that the landlady will not return to her old apartment. Remember Tamara, she was expecting this... her guides, family and friends were prepared for her arrival... she has gone into the light. She is not a ghost.
One thing that I teach people about ghosts is that first and foremost, they are still people. They reside in a different state of reality than us, but they are just people.
Some people reading this may say that I went into too much detail for a young girl to understand. However, I need you to know that you have nothing to be afraid of. People fear the unknown, and once some light is shed on the mystery, the fear is replaced by knowledge. Knowledge is power, and now Tamara, you have more power to put your fears behind you.
Take care.
